Below is a list of supplies homeschool teachers said they couldn't live without:

1. All- in-one Printer with copier, fax and scan features.

2. Globe, maps (world and U.S.), and atlas.

3. Library card. Most families visit the library on a weekly basis. Visiting different libraries in Washoe County can enhance your child's experience because each library offers slightly different programming and reading materials. If traveling to different libraries may not work in your schedule, you can always place a hold on materials and have them delivered to your nearest library for pick-up.

4. Computer with internet access. If this option scares you, you can purchase software which limits your child's access to possibly malicious web sites.

5. Dictionary, Encyclopedia and Thesaurus.

6. White board with dry erase markers and eraser.

7. Storage cabinet to hold supplies.

8. VHS/DVD player for educational tapes/cds/dvds.

9. Pencils (and pencil sharpener), pens, and erasers.

10. Writing and copy paper.

11. Calendar.

12. Clock and compass.

13. Bookshelf (easy to reach for inspiring reading).

14. Timer- to help with completing tasks where being timed is part of the learning process.

15. Colored markers, pencils, crayons, paints, and watercolors for art projects.

16. Portable DVD player , so children can watch educational shows while traveling in the car or running errands with their homeschool teacher.

17. Tape recorder in the house and car- books on tape are great way to interest children in the reading experience.

18. Box of supplies in a container with a handle (a small plastic toolbox works well for this), so the child can move supplies to a variety of work areas. Having supplies at hand and in one well organized container saves time searching for items needed.

19. Answering machine- to avoid being interrupted during school time.

20. Manipulatives including a ruler, yardstick, and protractor.

UNR Learning Resource Center is a great place to check out materials to supplement your homeschooling curriculum.

Enrich your child's studies by taking him/her to the places listed on this web site under Field Trips.

Northern Nevada has so many great places to visit that correspond with history, science, and art lessons. There is no better way to bring your teaching to life than to immerse your child into a live hands-on or visual experience.

If you have discovered a great place to visit, please join the Yahoo discussion group and tell us all about it !!

Some Stores offer a discount to teachers on relevant teaching materials.

Barnes & Noble and Borders bookstores have this program. Show proof of homeschooling to receive your discount card.
